Ecological Fallacy

/ecological-fallacy/
The logical error of inferring individual characteristics from group-level data, or assuming that relationships observed at one level of analysis apply to other levels. This fallacy can lead to inappropriate generalizations and stereotyping.
Example: Concluding that all members of a group with high average income are wealthy individuals, ignoring the variation within the group and individual differences.
