Equilibration

/equilibration/
In Piaget's cognitive development theory, the process by which individuals achieve cognitive balance between existing mental schemas and new experiences through the complementary processes of assimilation and accommodation. This self-regulating mechanism drives intellectual growth and adaptation to environmental demands.
Example: A child who believes all four-legged animals are dogs must equilibrate when encountering a cat, accommodating their schema to include different types of four-legged animals.
