The systematic ordering of feared stimuli from least to most anxiety-provoking, used in exposure therapy to gradually build tolerance and reduce avoidance through manageable steps toward confronting fears.
Example: For social anxiety: starting with brief eye contact, progressing to small group conversations, then public speaking, allowing gradual habituation to increasingly challenging social situations.
