Therapeutic approaches based on extinction learning principles, used to reduce maladaptive conditioned responses such as fears, addictive behaviors, and trauma reactions by breaking the association between triggers and responses.
Example: Treating PTSD by repeatedly exposing patients to trauma-related cues in a safe environment until the cues no longer trigger intense emotional responses.
