Face Validity

/face-validity/
The extent to which a test or assessment appears, on the surface, to measure what it claims to measure, based on subjective judgment rather than statistical analysis. While face validity doesn't guarantee actual validity, it can affect participant motivation and acceptance of assessment procedures.
Example: A depression questionnaire asking directly about sadness, hopelessness, and sleep problems appears to have good face validity, while abstract symbol tasks may lack face validity despite measuring relevant cognitive processes.
