Gender Identity

An individual's internal sense of being male, female, both, neither, or another gender, which may or may not correspond with biological sex assigned at birth and develops through complex interactions of biological, psychological, and social factors.
Example: A person assigned female at birth who identifies as male and experiences distress when others perceive them as female, leading to social transition and possibly medical interventions.
