The pattern showing how learned responses transfer to stimuli that are similar to the original training stimulus, with stronger responses to more similar stimuli and weaker responses to dissimilar ones.
Example: Fear conditioning to a specific tone generalizing to similar frequencies, with strongest fear responses to tones closest to the original and weaker responses as tones become more different.
