The tendency for group discussions to amplify initial inclinations, leading to more extreme decisions than individuals would make alone, occurring in both risky and conservative directions.
Example: Juries reaching more severe verdicts after deliberation than individual jurors initially favored, or investment committees making riskier financial decisions than members would make independently.
