Habituation

/habituation/
A basic form of learning characterized by decreased response to repeated stimulation, allowing organisms to filter out irrelevant environmental information and focus attention on novel or important stimuli.
Example: Becoming less aware of the sound of air conditioning after being in a room for a while, or infants showing decreased interest in repeatedly presented toys while maintaining interest in new objects.
