A stage in the creative problem-solving process where conscious work on a problem is set aside, allowing unconscious processing to continue and potentially leading to sudden insights.
Example: Struggling with a difficult math problem, then setting it aside to do other activities, and suddenly having the solution occur while taking a shower or going for a walk.
